MH17 plane crash: Three Vietnamese victims identified

The Consular Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 19 confirmed that there were three Vietnamese nationals among the victims of the Malaysian Airlines MH17 plane crash in Eastern Ukraine.

The three victims, who also have Dutch nationality, were Nguyen Ngoc Minh (born September 15, 1977), and her two children: Dang Minh Chau (May 23, 1997), and Dang Quoc Huy (March 1, 2001).

They were among 298 people aboard Malaysian Airlines MH17 plane from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur that was shot down on July 17 in Eastern Ukraine.


The Vietnamese embassies in Malaysia, Ukraine and the Netherlands are working closely with relevant agencies of these countries to deal with necessary legal procedures.

Malaysian Airlines (MAS) on July 18 announced that three passengers of Vietnamese origin took MH17 plane from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, carrying Dutch passport.

At an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on July 18, Vietnamese ambassador to the US Le Hoai Trung asked for an independent investigation into the case.

Vietnam Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Hai Binh on July 18 also extended condolences to the governments, people and families of the victims.
