The Buddist Sangha of Vietnam, in cooperation with the National Traffic Safety Committee, has put together a ceremony pray for those deceased as a result of traffic accidents.

The requiem ceremony for traffic victims will begin on November 9 at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda in HCM City. The ceremony has been scheduled to coincide with the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020. This is also a part of Vietnam Traffic Safety Year 2014.

According to the National Traffic Safety Committee, each day, about 25 people die of traffic-related incidents. With a message of "remembering the deceased and live for the living", the requiem ceremony is set to be a large programme to those who fell victim to traffic accidents in Vietnam.

The ceremony is also expected to raise awareness of the issue and warn about the dangers of bad driving habits. It also calls for community help for the families of traffic accident victims.

Thich Thanh Nhieu, vice head of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha said, "The requiem's aim is to to help those souls rest, and to remind the living to value their their lives and others while on the road."
