There are 16 Vietnamese nationals in Nepal that we know of that have been caught up in the earthquakes— but at this moment we have no reports of any killed or injured, according to Tran Quang Tuyen of the Vietnam Embassy in India.

On the afternoon of April 28, some Vietnamese have already boarded flights for the return trip home Tuyen said, adding that many others have been in contact with the embassy to confirm they are safe.

Staff from Vietnam Embassy in India is on the ground and have provided practical help to them. Teams of consular staff have also been out scouring hospitals, hotels and areas popular with tourists looking for Vietnamese nationals who may need assistance.

Earthquake damage to communications infrastructure has made it difficult to contact people who may have been trekking in remote areas so it may be some time before we, working with tour companies and other organizations, are able to identify and to account for all Vietnamese nationals.

The embassy has updated contact persons and telephone numbers on its website, Facebook and other media for Vietnamese people to use, Tuyen said.

Earlier, the embassy sent a diplomatic note to the Nepal Foreign Ministry and the Nepal Embassy in India, asking them to support Vietnamese nationals and assist them evacuating to New Delhi.
