Heavy rain flooded Hanoi streets, throwing city traffic into chaos on September 8 morning.

A heavy rainstorm broke over the city at about 5:30am and continued until 10am. Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company said many streets, including Doi Can, Vu Trong Phung and Cao Ba Quat, as well as Hoang Mai and Thai Ha streets were submerged under centimetres of water.

Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage directed drivers to safe crossings, but hundreds of vehicles were stuck on Van Bao Street. Many motorbike engines died, creating more congestion.

"We went out at 7am, but an hour later we still can't get across sections to go to school," said Ho Le, a resident in Ba Dinh District.
