Nguyen Thanh Hung, Chairman of Binh Chau Commune’s Fisherman Association, said that captain of fishing boat QNg95861-TS called to inform that his boat had been attacked by the strangers who brought guns with them.

Hung cited Cu as saying that two boats with six people boarded his boat when it was operating off Spratly Islands. At that time, only two fishermen were on board while others had dived for fish.

While 42 year-old Truong Dinh Bay demanded to know why the men were boarding his vessel one of the boarders shot him dead.

Cu said he had collected four cartridges as evidence. The boat was on the way to the mainland and the victim’s body is expected to be handed over to his family.
