Pedestrians in Hanoi to be fined for traffic violations

Hanoi traffic police will attempt to impose fines on pedestrians violating traffic rules from February 1, 2016.

 

Pedestrians in Hanoi to be fined for traffic violations 

According to the Hanoi Police Department, pedestrians regularly violate traffic regulations.

The department reported that in 2015, up to 1,696 traffic accidents happened in Hanoi, with nearly 200 traffic accidents related to pedestrians.

The fine of VND50,000 (USD2.3)-VND60,000 will be applied to ignoring traffic lights, road signs or police instructions. Those who violate the regulations such as carrying bulky things or crossing median strips, going on roads closed for construction works will be subject to a fine of VND60,000-80,000. People who walk onto highways will be fined VND80,000-VND120,000.

The police will highlight the issue between January 27 to January 31 through the media in the run-up to the regulations being enforced.
