A farmer collecting dead fish in Thuan An Town
Local authorities in Thua Thien-Hue today, May 5 are continuing to help local farmers collect dead fish at their farms and along several coasts in the area.
The mass fish deaths have reoccurred since May 3 in Thuan An coast in Huong Tra Town.
According to local people, vice chairman of Thua Thien-Hue Province, Pham Ngoc Tho, arrived on May 4 to inspect the incident with local authorities. They had collected about 60 kilograms of dead fish from the sea and about 1 tonne from local farms, which will be destroyed to prevent them from polluting the environment or illegal trading.
Tran Duy Tuyen, party secretary of Huong Tra Town, said that they had only witnessed the mass deaths in the area over the past couple of days, especially after the rising tide.
Thuan An Town in Phu Vang District has also reported mass fish deaths during the past two days. The local authorities on May 3 collected 1.1 tonnes of dead fish in 23 farms here.
Collecting dead fish to be destroyed in Thuan An Town
Some farmers have tried to get back some money by selling the dead fish from their farms. To prevent this, local authorities in Huong Tra Town and Phu Vang District are paying them VND10,000 per kilo.
Local farmers are very worried that their fish have continued to die en mass this morning yet no exact cause have been announced.
