One airman from missing military aircraft rescued

A pilot of the Su 30Mk2 military aircraft which went missing on the morning of June 14 in Nghe An province has been rescued by a local fisherman.

 

Rescue team is looking for the aircraft

A source told DTiNews early this morning that Major Nguyen Huu Cuong, 39, had been rescued by a fishing boat from Ha Tinh Province at around 5am this morning after ejecting.

"Cuong is in good health condition and is waiting for a rescue boat to take him to shore," the source said.

Speaking to DTiNews on the phone early this morning, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Cong Luc from Nghe An Province's Border Guard force said that he was informed by Cuong's brother at 4.30 am that he had been rescued at by a fishing boat 28 nautical miles North-East from where the aircraft went missing.

"We're still trying to look for the other airman, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Tran Quang Khai and the aircraft following an oil slick," Luc said.


A Su-30MK2

The Su 30Mk2 aircraft lost contact at 7:29 am during a training session around Hon Mat Island, about 40km off the coast of Nghe An.

The advanced fighter aircraft is among 36 Su-30MK2s which the Vietnamese Air Force bought from Russia last year.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Phan Van Xuan from Nghe An Province's Border Guard force said three vessels had been deployed in the search around Hon Mat Island.

A command post has also been set up at the military command of Nghe An’s Cua Lo township on the afternoon of June 14.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has sent a dispatch asking for intensified efforts to search for the aircraft.
