Pokemon Go fever finally infected Vietnam after it went live in the country on August 6. Local parks have been packed with trainers looking for Pokemon characters.

"People are gathering at Tao Dan Park even late at night to catch Pokemon. If someone scream Scyther or Kabuto, a huge group of people will flock there immediately," Nguyen Phuong, a Pokemon Go player said.

Another trainer, Nguyen Tien Hai, said he had stayed at Tao Dan Park since early morning until night to play the game. "There are lots of Pokemons and Pokestops in the park so trainers just gather here," he said.

Pokemon and Pokestops have appeared mostly at Tao Dan Park as well as other districts in the city centre. Some trainers prefer going to the park at the weekend since creating a Pokestops take times and have to wait for approval from Google staff.

Trainers are spreading the word that there are many less common Pokemon at Le Thi Rieng Park such as Slowpoke or Tetacoll. The park also has 14 Pokestops and Pokegyms. Rarer Pokemon have also been sighted at other well-known locations such as Nguyen Hue Street.

Trainers largely gather by Hoan Kiem Lake and Government Guesthouse in Hanoi or Han River in Danang to find strong Pokemons.

Pokemon Go is an augmented reality game that requires people to go to real locations to find and catch virtual creatures through their phones. It was released a month ago but only starts its global roll out recently and Vietnam was one of the newest countries added to the list.

However, a new hack app has been created allow people to stay home and still be able to catch Pokemon. Many local players are reporting the cheaters to create a fair playground and they have been rewarded with game points by publisher Niantic Labs.
