The house of lottery winner Nguyen Thi Anh Dao in Tra Vinh Province has been surrounded by poor people since this morning, October 19, waiting for gifts.

American-style lottery game Mega 6/45 found Dao, 32 years old, the winner of the grand prize of VND92.03 billion (some USD4.12 million) in its 39th draw on October 16.

After tax, Dao is expected to receive some VND83 billion. This is the largest jackpot prize ever paid out to a Vietnamese winner.

Dao said she has plans to donate some money to charity organisations such as the Red Cross Society to support needy families, including 400 gifts worth 25 kilos of rice and VND200,000 (USD9.5) each for local poor households.

Poor people rushed to Dao’s house in a hope to receive the gifts. However, the house was closed.

Local security had to attend the area to help disperse the crowds.
