HCM City plans second pedestrian street

HCM City has carried out a plan to turn the popular backpacker road of Bui Vien in District 1 into a pedestrian street.

The 650-metre section on Bui Vien Street at Pham Ngu Lao Ward will be the city’s second pedestrian street after Nguyen Hue Street.

Vehicles will be banned to travel on the second pedestrian street from 7 pm to 2 am. Business activities will still only be allowed on the pavement.

The operation of the new pedestrian street will be piloted at the weekend. The pavement of Bui Vien Street will be upgraded this year.

Parking areas will be located at area B of Park 23/9 which are some 200 metres from Bui Vien Street.

Cables will be installed underground and 25 cameras will be put underground along the street.

The HCM City Department of Tourism are finalising plans before being submitted to HCM City authorities for approval.
