HCM City police break marriage brokerage ring
HCM City police have raided a ring which specialises in providing Vietnamese women for South Korean men.
On August 3, the police conducted a sudden check at a hotel in District 9 and found four South Korean men select their wife from a group of six Vietnamese women who are all from south western localities and aged between 19 and 25.
At the hotel, the police also found one South Korean man and one Vietnamese woman who are brokers along with two other Vietnamese women acting as interpreters. All of them were taken to the police station for questioning.
The ring led by a South Korean man has been operating in District 9, HCM City, since late 2016. It contacts young women in south western localities who want to get married to foreigners. They are then taken to HCM City to learn Korean. After that, groups of South Koreans will be introduced to meet them to choose their wife.
The ring previously operated in HCM City’s Tan Binh District. However, it moved to District 1 and Binh Duong Province.
The police are further investigating the case.
