Late but colder winter expected

This year’s winter is forecasted to come later but be colder than the previous three years, said an expert from the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

Centre director Hoang Duc Cuong said that the cold weather ranging between seven and 10 days will mainly focus on January and February. The average temperature of the winter months will be approximately that of many previous years.

However, he forecasted that this year’s winter would be colder than over the past three years. The rainfall in November and December was predicted to be 15-30% lower than previous years. Meanwhile, the temperature from January to April will be similar to previous years.

Cuong added that from now to the end of this month, around four storms and tropical low pressures will affect the East Sea area, so, the central and southern regions of Vietnam may be affected.

Last year’s winter was the warmest for the past 10 years when temperatures averaged 25-26 degrees centigrade during the day and 15-16 degrees centigrade at night.
