Three nuns in Dong Nai drowned at sea

Three of the five Buddhist nuns from a Zen monastery in the southern province of Dong Nai have died due to drowning at sea.

At around 6:00 a.m on yesterday morning, February 22, five nuns from Thien Chieu Zen monastery came to Mo Co Beach in the neighbouring province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau’s Long Dien District to bathe. While bathing they were all swept up by swift currents.

Local bystanders jumped into the water to rescue them but only three were saved and taken to the hospital. The other two nuns remained missing.

By midday of the same day, a search and rescue team found one of the two who went missing. However, she was found dead

At 7:30 this morning, February 23, the remaining missing person was also found dead.

Meanwhile, one of the three rescued nuns who were hospitalised has also died, bringing the death toll of the case to three.
