Temperatures at the top of Fansipan in the northern province of Lao Cai dropped to below zero degrees centigrade on the evening of April 6, leaving it covered in frost.

It is a rare phenomenon for Sapa District in April.

Frost suddenly appears at Mount Fansipan on the evening of April 6

Many visitors were very surprised to see frost in Sapa when the summer is nearing.

Nguyet Viet Mai, 29, in Sapa said that he had seen frost and snow many times at Fansipan, but he had never seen such a phenomenon in April.

This morning, April 7, many people rushed to Sapa to attend the opening ceremony of Do Quyen (water-rail) flower festival and to see frost as well.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorology Forecast, the northern region is experiencing a cold spell along with rain in some localities. The temperature fell to between 15-22 degrees centigrade.

Several northern mountainous areas have temperatures  below 10 degrees centigrade.
