The Central Mental Hospital 2 in Dong Nai Province received complaints from the family of patient Pham Khanh Trang and sealed up the medicines on May 19.

According to Trang's mother, they was prescribed the Encorate 200mg three days ago and bought them at the hospital pharmacy for patients with health insurance. But when Trang's mother was about to open the medicines, she was shocked that the medicines were produced on April 10, 2015 and had already expired on April 9.

The hospital inspectorate further discovered 800 expired Encorate pills at the hospital pharmacy.

Dong Nai Social Security visited the hospital and according to the papers, the Encorate given to the patients in April and May all had expiry dates until mid-2020. Over 232,000 Encorate pills at the hospital were also registered to have the 2020 expiry date.

"The real expiry date and the registered one are different," said the representative of Dong Nai Social Security.

The Central Mental Hospital 2 claimed to have never imported the Encorate with 2018 expiry date. The hospital said they were unsure why the hospital pharmacy had the expired pills and had reported for investigation. The involved employees were suspended.
