Both Vietnam Airlines and Jetstar Pacific are given full seven-star safety assessment. Airlines Ratings sets standards and regulations necessary for aviation safety, security, efficiency, and regularity, as well as for aviation environmental protection.

The ranking is also based on the eight ICAO audit parameters and IATA Operational Safety Audit certification. A star is given if the airline maintained a fatality free record for the past 10 years.

Geoffrey Thomas, director of Airline Ratings said Vietnam Airlines had contributed a lot to Vietnam's economy.

It has a modern and effective fleet of Airbus and Boeings. In the past year, Vietnam Airlines has successfully built a management system that can predict possible risks for timely prevention. Last year, it safely carried out 140,000 flights and transported nearly 22 million passengers.

Jetstar Pacific was able to meet over 800 criteria and given the IATA Operational Safety Audit certification in September. It is currently using the SMS-Safety Management System approved by Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam and the International Air Transport Association.

Nguyen Thai Trung, deputy director of Vietnam Airlines said, "Safety has always been our priority. Aviation safety work is a long process and can be challenged immediately by other people. We have to monitor everything constantly to ensure that hundreds of passengers will have a safe trip."

Airline Ratings also ranked airlines services based on meal quality, seating comfortability and entertainment services. Vietnam Airlines was given 6.5 out of 7 stars for the economy, premium economy and business classes. Jetstar Pacific was given 3 out of five stars for low-cost airlines.
