H’Thuy, 24, from Ma ethnic minority group has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer when she was in the 6th month of pregnancy, but she turned down the chemotherapy treatment to ensure safety for her child. The time when the disease was detected, she was the student in the final year of a university.

She said that during the study time at the university, she loved a man. However, his family did not accept her family as it was very poor and belonged to an ethic minority group. Despite his family’s disapproval, they still lived with each other and then H’Thuy was pregnant.

In the sixth month of pregnancy, she found unusual signs of health, so she came to Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City for medical checks up where doctors said that she was suffering from colorectal cancer.

“The child is my life motivation, so I refused the chemotherapy treatment. One month after that, my condition became worse, forcing doctors took a surgery to take the baby out in the eighth month of pregnancy,” H’ Thuy added.

Being premature, her son coped up with pneumonia and sepsis. After being given with the intensive care at hospital, the baby’s health greatly improved and returned home six months later.

One month after she gave birth, her husband left the house without saying a word. He hasn’t cared about his son at all.

H’Thuy’s family now can’t afford her treatment. They have prepared for the worst, but the young mother still hopes that a miracle would happen to her so that she can live to take care of her child.
