North Korean leader to pay official visit to Vietnam from March 1-2

Chairman of the Workers’ Party and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un will pay an official visit to Vietnam from March 1-2, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).


North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is welcome by Vietnamese Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung at Dong Dang Railway Station on February 26.


The official friendly visit is made after the North Korean leader joins the second DPRK-USA Summit with U.S. President Donald Trump from February 27-28 in Hanoi, KCNA reports.

The North Korean leader arrived in Hanoi on the morning of February 26 and visited the Embassy of the DPRK in the afternoon.

On the morning of February 27, a North Korean delegation led by several Politburo members paid a visit to the World Heritage site of Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh Province. The delegation then came to Haiphong City in the afternoon to visit some automobile, motorbike and smartphone plants of VinFast Company which is Vietnam's first fully-fledged car manufacturer.

Vietnam and the DPRK established diplomatic ties on January 31, 1950 according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs,


The two countries have signed a number of agreements over recent years including an agreement on civil air transport cooperation, an agreement on trade, the mutual legal assistance agreement, the investment encouragement and protection agreement and double taxation avoidance agreement.
