A member of staff said that the city’s buses now mainly serve students and the elderly. Most of the routes lure only a small number of passengers. Sometimes buses run without any passengers on. The improper plan is blamed for the problem.

Buses in Danang fail to attract passengers

Thanh Hoa, a local resident, said that she took buses to work but it was inconvenient for her to use buses to pick up her children from school or go to many other places such as supermarkets. So she still preferred the motorbike.

Danang now has 13 bus routes, including five subsidised routes, which are expected to ease the city’s traffic congestion.

According to Architect Ho Phuoc Phuong from Danang City Urban Planning Association, the city is facing more traffic jams due to the sharp rise in private vehicles.

Phuong noted that it was necessary to restrict private vehicles and development public transport.
