Both taxis and contracted transport cars will be banned on 11 streets during rush hours in Hanoi in an attempt to prevent congestion.

According to the Department of Transport, on the weekdays, taxis and contracted transport cars will be banned from 6 am to 9 am and from 4.30 pm to 7 pm on Giang Vo, Lang Ha, Le Van Luong and a section of Truong Chinh (from Vuong Thua Vu to Ton That Tung) streets.

For Kham Thien Street, taxis and contracted cars are banned from using the lane on the direction from Le Duan to O Cho Dua. For Chuong Duong Bridge, the direction from Nguyen Van Cu to Tran Nhat Duat will be banned.

They are banned from using a section of Hang Bai Street, from Tran Hung Dao to Ly Thuong Kiet, from 7 pm to 12 am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Hanoi authorities have already banned trucks on 22 streets to reduce congestion.

Resolution 46 states that violators will be fined from VND800,000 (USD34) to VND1.2m when using banned streets, wrong lane or wrong way on one-way streets. They may have their driving licenses suspended from one to three months or two to four months if causing accidents.
