Flash floods warned for northern mountainous areas

The northern region has been forecasted to see heavy rains with flash floods warned for many mountainous localities in the days to come.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, from this morning June 13, some mountainous provinces such as Tuyen Quang, Bac Kan, Cao Bang and Ha Giang had torrential rains. At 1 pm on the same day, these localities continuing having rains with the rainfall of 20-50mm.

From late afternoon of today, heavy rains and strong winds will spread to many other northern localities. Flash floods would happen during the rains which have been predicted to last until three days later.

Rivers and streams in northern mountainous areas would face floods, particularly on Bang River in Cao Bang Province, and rives in Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang and Lao Cai. 

Over the past recent days, the north has been experiencing a heat wave with an average temperature of 35-37 degrees centigrade.

Northern and central regions would face 2-3 hot spells in the month. The country’s temperature is forecasted to be higher 0.5-1 degrees centigrade than previous years.
