Hanoi Centre for Disease Control has announced that it will give rewards to people who bring HIV patients in for treatment.

Hanoi has launched the Undetectable=Untransmittable or K=K (Khong phat hien=Khong lay truyen) campaign

According to the centre, in the past 10 years, both the number of new HIV patients and AIDS patients decreased. But in reality, the number of undetected patients is very high. Last year, 1,290 new HIV patients were found in Hanoi after more tests were applied. In the first three months, 400 people were tested positive, an increase of 200 people compared to the same period last year.

It is estimated that there are 500,000 undetected patients in Hanoi who are hiding their illness.

The goal in 2019 is to find 3,000 patients, 90% of the total patients will be tested and understand their condition, 90% will be given antiretroviral treatment and 95% of the treated patients will have their viral load under control.

In order to meet the goal, Hanoi has applied many measures including giving people who bring HIV patients in for treatment VND200,000 (USD8.61) to VND1.8m per person.

From May to September, Hanoi has launched the Undetectable=Untransmittable or K=K (Khong phat hien=Khong lay truyen) campaign. Studies have shown that persons living with HIV on successful treatment with undetectable levels of virus cannot transmit HIV to their sexual partners, stigma and discrimination towards HIV people should be ended.

Phan Thi Thu Huong, the vice director of Vietnam Administration for HIV/AIDS Control said the campaign was especially meaningful and would help raise more awareness about HIV/AIDS and change the lives of people with HIV/AIDS.
