Senegalese man detained for bringing 1.6 kilos of cocaine to Vietnam

A Senegalese man has just been detained after authorities at Tan Son Nhat Airport found 1.6 kilos of cocaine in his stomach.




77 cocaine-containing tablets, capsule-shaped are taken out from the stomach of the man.


The Customs Department at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on August 12 announced that through screenings they detected cocaine in the stomach of the 39-year-old man who was on a 50-hour flight from Nigeria through Ethiopia and Thailand before landing in Vietnam.


"He was detained for further screenings right after completing check-in," the department said. "We saw many cocaine-containing tablets, capsule-shaped, 5 cm long, 1 cm in diameter in his stomach. The man was then sent to the 175 Military Hospital where doctors removed 77 such tablets weighing 1.6 kilos in his stomach.

The department said that the cocaine would a value of nearly VND10 billion (USD434,783) on the local market.
