Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro project's deadline has been delayed many times

The Ministry of Transport and the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam have worked together once every two weeks to discuss about the progress of Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro project and asked the Chinese contractor to give a final deadline for the operation date.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the project's progress is 99% completed. Everything is in place for a test run. The ministry has reported all difficulties to the prime minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy.

The Railway Projects Management Board was asked to counsel and monitor the progress to ensure that the project will meet its schedule. The contractor must give the final deadline and commit to follow through.

The Cat Linh-Ha Dong Project is over 13 km long with 12 elevated stations. The construction was started since 2011 with an investment of VND18 trn (USD775m). It was supposed to officially run in April but the deadlines have already been delayed several times.

The national key project used ODA from China. China Railway Sixth Group Co. was appointed as the contractor.

Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The said the contractor had great experience in construction but is lacking in the management and operation departments. The said they had worked with the Chinese Department of Transport and embassy many times over the problems and how to speed up the project.
