HCM City social worker detained for alleged child abuse
A male staff member at HCM City Social Support Centre has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing children living at the centre.
Police in the city’s Binh Thanh District detained education counselling and application management division employee Nguyen Tien Dung. The centre is managed by the municipal Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Dung was accused of molesting some girls living at the centre younger than 15.
It is claimed the incidents dated back to May when two homeless girls were encountered. The girls initially refused to stay at the centre. Dung recognised this and sought ways to approach them.
He gave them cigarettes, soft drinks and boiled water to cook instant noodles and promised to help them go home or attend school soon if they let him abuse them.
Several other girls at the centre reported similar instances with Dung.
On Sunday, Dung was suspended from work and then detained following instruction from Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung.
