Nearly 280 Vietnamese citizens return from Europe and Africa

Nearly 280 Vietnamese citizens from 24 European and African countries were brought home on a repatriation flight which landed at the Van Don International Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh on August 2.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the flight which departed from Paris on August 1 was arranged by Vietnamese authorities in the two countries, and the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines.

Passengers included children under 18, the elderly, pregnant woman, people with illness, stranded tourists, labourers with expired contracts and without residence, interns, students without residence due to the closure of dormitories and other disadvantaged cases.

Right after landing at the airport, all the passengers and the flight crew members were given health check-ups and then sent to quarantine areas in accordance with current regulations.

From April 10 to August 2, local agencies coordinated with Vietnam’s representative agencies overseas to launch 77 flights, bringing home over 18,000  Vietnamese citizens stranded abroad due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Under the Prime Minister’s instructions, Vietnamese agencies, Vietnamese representative agencies abroad and domestic airlines will continue to conduct flights to bring overseas Vietnamese citizens back to Vietnam.
