Four returnees from the US infected with SARS-CoV-2

Four Vietnamese people who recently returned from the US have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,509, the Ministry of Health reported on Thursday evening.

According to the ministry's report, the four newly-infected patients including two men and two women aged between 28-65 arrived at Cam Ranh International Airport on January 1.

They were sent to a quarantine area in Phu Yen Province upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on January 6.

The four patients are now being treated at the Phu Yen Provincial General Hospital.

Earlier, seven other people who boarded the same flight with them were also infected with SARS-CoV-2 and are being treated in Phu Yen Province.

With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 815.

As of 6 pm on January 7, a total of 1,353 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 19,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
