Covid-19 outbreak risk from migrating still high
Vietnam may face new Covid-19 outbreaks which could spread from some neighbouring countries, Tran Dac Phu, senior advisor to the Vietnam Public Health Emergency Operations Centre warned.
"Many Vietnamese people are living and working in Cambodia and the travel demands between the two countries is high. During this time, many Vietnamese people wish to return home which is a high risk," he said. "Opening for tourism, especially during the Reunification Holiday, is right but we have to be careful. It's very hard to control an outbreak so the local authorities must be on alert."
The Ministry of Health has worked with the border provinces to improve testing capability and vaccine distribution priority. Patient 2582 in HCM City and Patient 2582 in Hai Phong City all entered Vietnam illegally via fishing boats. Phu suggested tightening monitoring to prevent illegal border crossers.
The severe Covid-19 outbreak has forced the Cambodian authorities to speed up the vaccination process and implement stricter measures to deal with the outbreak. The World Health Organisation in Cambodia has raised a warning of a collapse of the health system in this country.
Statistics from the Vietnam Ministry of Health show that Vietnam hasn't had any community case in 30 days but it still has imported cases, including people returning from Cambodia. All of them have been quarantined immediately.
The Ministry of Health announced nine Covid-19 cases in Ben Tre, Kien Giang, Danang and HCM City on April 13. The patients were quarantined immediately after entering Vietnam.
59,249 people have been vaccinated as nine out of 19 provinces and cities finished the first phase of the immunisation programme. They are Tay Ninh, Long An, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Khanh Hoa, Danang, Gia Lai, Hoa Binh, Ha Giang and Bac Ninh provinces.
