Aircraft suffer bird strikes at southern airports
Several planes have been damaged by flying birds while landing or taking off in some airports in the southern region.
On April 7, the technicians found blood near the engine of a Vietnam Airlines plane after it flying from Hai Phong to HCM City. They suspected that a bird might have hit the plane in the air.
In March, another plane of Vietnam Airlines had its engine broken after a Danang-Hanoi flight. They also found many bird feathers inside the engine.
The airport managers have used various measures to chase the birds away but it proved to be ineffective. Most of the cases are reported in Tan Son Nhat, Dong Hoi, Phu Quoc, and Vinh airports.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said migratory birds that fly at 300-500 metres high posed the most dangerous risks because they often fly across the runways.
The southern region has more bird strike cases because it has many large rice fields where the birds live.
