Vietnam confirms 633 Covid-19 infections in six hours

Vietnam recorded 633 new Covid-19 infections in the past six hours, raising the total number of patients in the country to 29,103, the Ministry of Health reported at noon on Sunday.

According to the ministry's report, 632 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 600 in Ho Chi Minh City, nine in Bac Giang, six in Hanoi, three in Hung Yen, three in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, two in Ninh Thuan, two in Ha Tinh, two in Binh Thua, and one each in Binh Dinh, Dak Nong, Lam Dong, Hai Phong, and Thanh Hoa.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Saturday, the city also recorded 1,320 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. The city has imposed social distancing measures in 15 days starting from July 9 in an effort to prevent the virus spread.

As of Sunday noon, 25,615 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 12,658 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 58 cities and provinces nationwide.

One imported patient is a 56-year-old Dutch man who recently arrived in Vietnam from the UAE. He was sent to a quarantine area in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province upon arrival and is now being treated at a local hospital.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 29,103 including 27,185 locally-transmitted cases.

As of 6 pm on July 10, a total of 9,204 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far there have been 112 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 259,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.

By the end of July 10, Vietnam has conducted over 4.04 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine. More than 271,000 people have received two doses of the vaccine.
