Vietnam records 7,882 new Covid-19 infections on Monday

Vietnam confirmed an additional 7,882 more Covid-19 infections on Monday including 5,997 in the virus epicentre of Ho Chi Minh City, raising the total number of patients in the country to 106,347, the Ministry of Health has reported.

According to the ministry's report, 7,859 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 5,997 in Ho Chi Minh City, 733 in Binh Duong, 259 in Dong Nai, 201 in Tien Giang, 135 in Dong Thap, 81 in Hanoi, 61 in Danang, 49 in Vinh Long, 48 in Binh Thuan, 46 in Phu Yen, 43 in Can Tho, 37 in Ben Tre, 29 in Dak Lak, 27 in Binh Dinh, 25 in An Giang, 13 in Tra Vinh, 12 in Khanh Hoa, 10 in Vinh Phuc, nine in Lam Dong, eight in Quang Nam, seven in Hau Giang, seven in Ninh Thuan, six in Dak Nong, four in Quang Ngai, three in Gia Lai, two in Bac Lieu, two in Nghe An, and one in Hung Yen, Tuyen Quang, Ca Mau, Hoa Binh, and Hue. Among these new infections, 887 cases were found in the communities.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Sunday, the city also recorded 4,555 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. Social distancing rules in Ho Chi Minh City will be further tightened to contain the spread.

There were 23 imported patients confirmed who are all Vietnamese people who recently returned from abroad.

As of Monday evening, 102,576 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 66,422 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 62 cities and provinces nationwide.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 106,347 including 104,146 locally-transmitted cases.

As of 6 pm on July 26, a total of 21,344 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.

Also on Monday, a further 154 deaths were announced related to Covid-19, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 524. Of the new fatalities, 129 deaths were in HCM City, nine in Dong Thap, seven in Long An, two in Can Tho, two in Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan, Bac Ninh, Tra Vinh, Kien Giang, Dong Nai reported one death each.

The country has conducted over 4.61 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 389,863 people having received two doses.
