Vietnam records 7,594 more Covid-19 infections on Thursday

An additional 7,594 Covid-19 infections were recorded on Thursday in Vietnam including 4,592 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City, raising the total number of patients in the country to 128,413, the Ministry of Health has reported.

According to the ministry's report, 7,593 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 4,592 in Ho Chi Minh City,  1,144 in Binh Duong, 499 in Long An, 325 in Dong Nai, 185 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 157 in Dong Thap, 139 in Tay Ninh, 63 in Binh Thuan, 59 in Hanoi, 54 in Danang, 52 in Phu Yen, 44 in Dak Lak, 39 in Can Tho, 35 in Binh Phuoc, 31 in Vinh Long, 21 in Kien Giang, 18 in Khanh Hoa, 18 in Tra Vinh, 13 in Hau Giang, 11 in Binh Dinh, 10 in An Giang, 10 in Hai Duong, 10 in Thua Thien-Hue, 10 in Quang Nam, seven in Nghe An, six in Lang Son, six in Vinh Phuc, six in Thanh Hoa, four in Bac Lieu, four in Dak Nong, four in Phu Tho, four in Ca Mau, four in Ha Tinh, three in Ninh Thuan, three in Lam Dong, two in Ha Giang, and one each in Ninh Binh and Quang Ngai. Among these new infections, 1,536 cases were found in the communities.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Wednesday, the city also recorded 4,449 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. Social distancing rules are being further tightened in the city to contain the virus spread.

There was one imported patients confirmed who are all Vietnamese people who recently returned from abroad.

As of Thursday evening, 124,635 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 81,781 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 62 cities and provinces nationwide.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 128,413 including 126,205 locally-transmitted cases.

On July 29, a total of 4,323 more patients were released from hospital following their full recovery, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 31,780.

Also on Thursday, a further 233 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 863.

The country has conducted over 5.32 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 496,630 people having received two doses.
