Family with terminally ill members in need of help
A family in Hanoi are calling for financial support to help cover medical treatment for two family members who are both suffering from cancer.
"I was shocked after knowing that I was in the fourth stage of breast cancer. I wandered alone and thought of giving up," she said.
Her father-in-law Nguyen Van Hoan was diagnosed with liver cancer the previous year. He also stays home and self-treated.
Before Covid-19, Tham had gone through 12 chemotherapy sessions. The chemicals caused many side effects like swollen limbs and breathing difficulties. In April, she had her ovaries removed as a part of the treatment.
Tham's family already borrowed everyone they could and was still unable to pay back the debts. Tham's husband is a car mechanic and he has been out of works since the outbreak occurred. Tham's mother-in-law is too weak to work and has to stay home to take care of small children.
Le Xuan Toan, chairman of Phuong Tu Commune People's Committee said Tham's family is one of the difficult cases in the area.
"I hope they will get help to treat both Tham and her father and raise the children. We can only help them so much because of a limited budget," he said.
