The largest Covid-19 Field Hospital, at Thoi Hoa in the southern province of Binh Duong has recently become deserted as the number of new infections have sharply fallen in the country's second-biggest epicentre.

Thoi Hoa Field Hospital for Covid-19 treatment is expected to discharged the last patients by the end of October

Thoi Hoa Field Hospital has 37,000 beds. It treated up to 20,000 Covid-19 patients during the recent outbreak.

There is no one left in some parts of the hospital as the province has continued to report a sharp fall in the number of new infections over the past 10 days.

Area D which used to treat 11,000 patients is now empty. Area C which admitted over 10,000 is expected to discharge its last patients on October 9. There are now just some 1,000 patients in Area A and over 2,000 patients in Area B.

It is expected that the hospital will clear the last patients and close by the end of October, according to the hospital's management board if the situation continues on its present trend.

Many other small field hospitals have also closed in Binh Duong over recent days. In Bau Bang District, over 10 Covdi-19 treatment facilities have closed while 100 other facilities have also closed in Tan Xuyen Town.

Binh Duong Provincial Centre for Diseases Control said that the pandemic has basically been brought under control in the area. The province has now switched to developing mobile Covid-19 treatment units rather than building field hospitals. At present, the province has set up 169 mobile Covid-19 treatment units including 21 units at local industrial zones.

Binh Duong has so far recorded 219,652 Covid-19 infections of which 204,404 patients have recovered and 2,134 others died.
