Bui Trong Ky from Yen Thanh District’s Ma Thanh Commune gave birth to nine children but five of them died from diseases. The four remaining children are usually sick, particularly his youngest child Bui Thi Quy, 45, who is facing mental problems. She sometimes undergoes convulsive fits and hits her head into walls.

When Quy was small, she displayed unusual behaviour. Despite being given treatment, her condition did not improve.
Although Ky is blind, he has had to look after Quy since his wife died. Every day, Bui Thi Chinh, Ky’s second daughter partially helps them. The family mainly depends on a monthly modest subsidy from the government because of their poverty.
Many neighbours sometimes donate food and rice for the family.
Bui Trong Long, party secretary of Ma Thanh Commune Commune, said that Ky’s family is really difficult. He hoped that donors could assist them.
