Nearly 1,500 people in Quang Tri evacuated due to flooding

Nearly 1,500 people in 267 households in the central province of Quang Tri have been evacuated during flooding.

Many mountainous areas in Quang Tri have been isolated due to inundation following heavy rain over the past days, particularly in Dakrong District.

The Ho Chi Minh Highway in Ta Long Commune was put half a metre under water.

 

The central region of Vietnam is facing heavy rains


On October 15-19, the province faced torrential rain of 200-300 mm. Some areas had rainfall of up to 455mm. The water level in many local rivers also continued to rise.

Local authorities decided to evacuate 1,416 people in Dakrong and Hai Lang districts with the majority from Dakrong.

One person in Dakrong District was swept away during the rains. Ba Long Commune has been completely isolated, said district chairman Thai Ngoc Chau.

According to the National Centre for Hydrometeorology Forecasting, localities from Nghe An to Thua-Thien Hue Province in the central region of Vietnam are experiencing heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the northern region of Vietnam is facing a cold spell with average temperatures of 18-21 degrees centigrade. In some mountainous localities, the temperature has fallen even further.

Hanoi is currently experiencing temperatures of 19-21 degrees centigrade.
