HCM City is seeking the Ministry of Health’s permission for the support of additional 100,000 doses of Molnupiravir, an anti-Covid-19 drug, amid the city’s rising new Covid-19 cases.

HCM City was previously provided with 110,000 doses of Molnupiravir. Of the figure, 67,000 doses were distributed to Thu Duc and local districts. Meanwhile, the city has handed over the remainder to other cities and provinces.

At present, the municipal Department of Health and Pham Ngoc Thach Medicine University are piloting the Covid-19 treatment for patients with mild symptoms at home, using Molnupiravir.

Around 55,000 Covid-19 patients in HCM City are still being quarantined at home, which requires large quantities of the drug.

HCM City now has around 2,000 doses of Molnupiravir in stock and this would be provided to local medical stations in two days to come.

An Thoi Ward’s medical station in District 12 has received around 100 Covid-19 patients a day. The facility is prioritising the use of Molnupiravir for people aged over 50 and those with underlying medical conditions.

Nguyen Tung, 43, from District 12 said that he and other members of his family have gradually improved after one week of using Molnupiravir.
