The VND500-million project will be carried out with VND400 million sponsored by Giao Hang Tiet Kiem Company and VND100 million donated by Dantri/Dtinews' readers.
Speaking at the ceremony, the headmistress of the kindergarten Le Thi Quyen expressed happiness that the long-awaited project was being realised.
According to Quyen, children in Phu Lam had to share a badly deteriorated decades-old 30-square-metre classroom.
"Our village lies in a remote mountainous area with 175 households including 61 from the Lao Thung ethnic minority group," she said. "Transportation is difficult here and local people have faced hardships with their farming work. Most of them have low incomes and can’t invest in their children’s education."
Quyen called the event a turning point in the education development of the area.
"I want to express my sincere thanks to Dantri/Dtinews for connecting with donors to help us carry out this project," she said. "I wanted to thank the main donor- the Giao Hang Tiet Kiem Company. We believe this project will help us improve the quality of education we provide."
At the event, Dantri's Deputy Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Xuan Toan shared that Phu Lam was Dantri's 127th school project, and Dantri and Giao Hang Tiet Kiem Company would start another school project in Nghe An Province later this week.
"We hope the new schools will help provide better conditions for teachers and students here," he said.
A Giao Hang Tiet Kiem Company representative, Han Thi Thuy, said that the Phu Lam Kindergarten was the third school project conducted with Dantri.
"Dantri Newspaper, teachers, and the army have helped connect us with disadvantaged localities who need support," Thuy said. "We hope the project will be completed in time for Phu Lam teachers and students to welcome the 2024-2025 school year."
Attending the ceremony, Huong Khe District People's Committee Vice Chairman Tran Quoc Bao shared that they had tried to upgrade the school but had been unable to build a new one due to a limited budget.
"We want to thank you for your valuable support," he said. "We'll direct the construction work to ensure the quality and progress."
