The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport plans to build a traffic control centre at a cost of EUR131 million (USD182.49 million).

Cameras will be installed on intersections

The department and France’s Sagemcom Co., Ltd has just finished the draft plan about the project to submit it to the Ministry of Planning and Investment for approval to add it into the list of projects to seek approval for official development assistance from the French government.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has thousands of intersections, with about 1,000 of them being controlled by traffic lights. However, these street lamps are handled independently and not in any systematic way, leading to difficulties in traffic management.

This project is aimed to control all traffic lights, cameras and instruction signs in the city in synchronicity. Under the project, 1,400 crossroads in Ho Chi Minh City will be provided with traffic cameras and other equipment.

Once put into operation, the centre will observe and manage the city’s traffic activities, replacing roadside traffic police posts.
