Hanoi's CPI rises slightly in November despite drops in petrol prices
The consumer price index (CPI) of Hanoi in November increased slightly by 0.04% compared to October, and by 0.76% against the same period last year despite the consecutive declines in oil and petrol prices.
The Hanoi Statistics Department announced that in November, four groups of commodities saw slight increases over the previous month including education up 0.01%; beverages and tobacco up 0.06%; medicines and health services up 0.07%; and household appliances up 0.08%.
Several groups of commodities posted higher rise from 0.11 to 0.37% against the previous month.
In the meantime, the prices of three groups of commodities went down compared to October - restaurants and food services down 0.04%; transportation down 0.42%, and post and telecommunications down 0.26%.
The prices of oil and petrol went down consecutively on October 19 and November 3, contributing to the decrease in the transportation category.

According to the Hanoi Statistics Department, the CPI rise was attributed to the rise in water prices and gas prices that pushed the prices of housing, electricity, water, fuel and building materials up by 0.37% over the previous month.
