Grab accused of causing congestion in Nha Trang
Transport officials in Khanh Hoa Province said that they are going to propose to the Transport Ministry to curb the rampant violations by Grab Company in the coastal tourist city of Nha Trang.
Deputy director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Transport, Nguyen Van Dan, said that they have allowed GrabTaxi service in Nha Trang City with the condition that Grab must have agreement with local taxi companies in hiring drivers.
"But Grab is violating our regulations to find and sign contracts with drivers to provide other transport services on their own," Dan stressed. "We're going to send a proposal to the Transport Ministry on April 13 to curb this problem."
The official explained that the traffic infrastructure in Nha Trang has been over-exploited with regular congestion on many streets so they will not allow an increase in the number of taxi vehicles at this time.
He, however, expressed that it is difficult to curb this problem as many drivers from other localities have come to sign contracts with Grab.
"Seven taxi companies in Nha Trang have sent complaints to us saying that although they hadn't signed an agreement with Grab, the company was still co-operating with their drivers," Dau said.
According to a Grabcar driver, Huynh Minh V, many drivers have registered to work for Grab and the services including GrabBike, Grabtaxi, Grabcar, and GrabAirport are also becoming popular in Nha Trang City.
"Although Grab have been launched here for roughly a month, I think the company has attracted some 100 drivers," V said.
The driver added that most of their customers a Chinese and Russian tourists who said they felt safer when using Grab service because they don't have to worry about overcharging or cheating.
Meanwhile, a representative from Grab said that they have not launched Grabcar service in Khanh Hoa.
