Many Vietnamese have chosen to travel abroad amid sharply increasing air tickets on domestic routes.

A return ticket offered by Bamboo Airway on the Hanoi-Danang air route was around VND4.5 million (USD177.19) on April 22, including taxes and surcharges. The ticket on the HCM City-Danang on the same day was VND4.6 million. Economy tickets on some flights of Bamboo Airways have almost been fully booked for the upcoming Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day holiday.

A return ticket for Vietnam Airlines’ HCM City-Danang flights is roughly VND5 million per person. However, this route has run out of tickets at peak morning and afternoon time.

For the national flag carrier’s Hanoi-Con Dao flights, only business tickets remain with VND8.30 million per single ticket, excluding taxes and surcharges.

In the context of rising domestic airfares, more people have chosen to travel abroad.

From late April to mid-June, a return air ticket from Vietnam and Thailand is around VND3.1 million.

According to many travel firms, the number of people booking overseas trips has surged.

Ho Xuan Phuc, general director of Hanotour, said that most of his firm’s tours to China had been fully booked by late June.

According to Nguyen Ngoc An, deputy director of Vietluxtour Joint Stock Company, air tickets often account for 50-60 percent of a package tour. Amid more expensive domestic tours, more Vietnamese people have tended to select travel abroad.

Thailand is offering lots of tourism promotion activities with attractive air ticket discounts.
