Hanoi to provide free wifi around Hoan Kiem Lake

Free wireless Internet (wifi) signals will be provided along the pedestrian streets around the Hoan Kiem Lake according to the local Department of Information and Communications.

The service, which is provided by the Vietnam Posts & Telecommunications Group (VNPT), will be launched at the same time with the inauguration of the walking streets on September 1.

According to the department, the pedestrian streets will include Dinh Tien Hoang, Le Lai, Le Thach, Dinh Le, Nguyen Xi, Trang Tien (from Ngo Quyen to Dinh Tien Hoang), Hang Khay, Le Thai To, Lo Su, Hang Dau, Hang Trong (from St. Joseph’s Cathedral to Le Thai To), Nha Tho and the Cathedral square. These areas will be closed to traffic from 19:00 - 2:00 am in summer and 18:00 to 2:00 am in winter from Friday to Sunday and on some holidays.

Currently, the Hanoi Transport & Services Corporation has piloted free Wi-Fi on bus routes No.86 from the Hanoi Railway Station to the Noi Bai International Airport, route No.11 from the Thong Nhat park to the University of Agriculture and route No.12 from the Nghia Do park to Dai Ang. In the coming time, all buses in Hanoi will have free Internet services.

My Dinh bus station was the first location in the capital providing this service for passengers.

So far, big cities such as Hoi An, Hue, Da Nang, Hai Phong and Ha Long have offered free Wi-Fi services in public places for tourism.
