HCM City opens new pedestrian street
HCM City Tourism Department announced that Bui Vien Pedestrian Street will be opened from August 20 during the weekends.
Vehicles will be banned starting from the intersection with De Tham Street to Do Quang Dau Street. Businesses will only be allowed to operate on the pavement. The management board will carry out research to further improve tourism products in the alleyways and events that are unique and suitable for the pedestrian streets.
The city authorities have repaired the pavements for the 1,400-metre-long street at the cost of nearly VND10bn (USD440,000).
In March, the Department of Transport in HCM City said they were considering opening a pedestrian area that covers 220 hectares in the city centre. The pedestrian area will include main streets in the city's centre such as Le Duan, Pasteur, Hai Ba Trung, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Dong Khoi and some streets in District 1.
