Hanoi authorities are seeking new investors for a floating lotus-shaped theatre project.

According to the Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment, a local firm was approved to invest in Hoa Sen (lotus) theatre project; but the firm then decided to withdraw from the project, so municipal authorities have to look for new investors.

Covering an area of 4 hectares, the six-level opera house, with the design of a lotus floating on water, will feature 2,000 seats and other services, including an entertainment area, an ice-rink and offices.

The VND2.39-trillion (USD104 million) work, which is expected to be Hanoi’s biggest and most modern theatre, is a part of the CV1 Park which is located in the conjunction area between Duong Dinh Nghe and Pham Hung streets in Cau Giay District.

Hanoi intended to carry out the project using the state budget, but this sparked a debate over its necessity. Some opponents said the project was a waste of money. Later, the city decided to seek private investment for the project.

Hanoi is also scheduled to complete the construction of the Kim Quy culture, tourism and entertainment park in the outlying district of Dong Anh in 2019.
