Van Don Airport honoured at WTA
The Van Don Airport has become the first airport in Vietnam being honoured at the World Travel Awards Asia & Oceania (WTA).
"This has further affirmed the quality of services at Van Don Airport and the view of Sun Group. This is our motivation to continue improving our services," said Van Don Airport's Director Pham Ngoc Sau.
Van Don Airport went into operation in December 2018 with an investment of VND7.5bn (USD323,000). This is the first airport in Vietnam that is completely invested by a private company and completed in two years. The airport can receive huge aircraft like the Boeing 787. In the first phase, it has the capacity to welcome 2.5 million passengers per year and 5 million in 2030.
Passenger experience is an important criterion for the WTA and Van Don has had a high score. Many modern pieces of equipment have been installed to ensure a smooth and effective operation.
The airport's design is inspired by the beautiful landscape of Ha Long Bay and realised by the architectures from Singapore.
Eight months after going into operation, Van Don Airport served nearly 1,300 flights and 150,563 passengers, opening more economic development opportunities for Quang Ninh. In the future, there will be more flights to China, Japan and Thailand. New domestic routes to Danang and Phu Quoc will be opened.
The number of tourists to Ha Long Bay also increased thanks to free shuttle buses to Ha Long City and easy access to other locations.
Sun World Ba Na Hills and Sun World Fansipan Legend were also honoured at the awards.
