The central province of Quang Tri will invest VND2.5 billion (USD108,695) in infrastructure construction of an ancient well area to attract tourists.

The area includes 14 wells built around 2,000 years ago by Cham people in Gio Linh District. Seven of the wells have been restored.

The wells have been recognised as national historical and cultural site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The wells lie at the foot of bazan red soil hills and have their own underground water sources which serve local residents. To date, the water sources have never dried out no matter the weather.

Many visitors are interested in the wells.

The province will popularise its tourism with more than 500 revolutionary and historical sites, including four special national sites of Hien Luong-Ben Hai, Ho Chi Minh Trail, Vinh Moc Tunnel and Vinh Linh Tunnel Village, and Quang Tri Citadel, among others.

The province aims to lure 2 million visitors in 2019, including about 175,000 foreigners, thus earning about VND1.74 trillion (USD74.82 million).
