Dien Bien Phu City ready for vivid victory celebration

The streets and public venues around Dien Bien Phu City in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien, have been brightly decorated with flags, flowers, and banners to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954).



The Dien Bien Phu Campaign lasted from March to May 1954 under the command of General Vo Nguyen Giap. The victory on May 7, 1954, led to the signing of the 1954 Geneva Accords in which France agreed to withdraw forces from its colonies in Indochina.



The former battlefield has become a major tourist attraction in Dien Bien Province.



The banners featuring President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap have been placed at prime locations in the city.



Vo Nguyen Giap Street, one of the main streets in Dien Bien Phu City, is full of flags and banners.



Thanh Binh Bridge has just been opened for the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

The 2024 National Tourism Year has also been organised in Dien Bien, featuring 169 activities and events.



A banner celebrating the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory is placed at a street corner.



According to the Ministry of Defence, a military parade will take place at the Dien Bien Stadium on May 7 with the participation of over 12,000 people, 12 helicopters and 18 artillery pieces in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory.
