The moss-covered houses of the Dao ethnic people are among the special features of Tay Con Linh Mountain in the northern province of Ha Giang.

The stilt houses are located in Xa Phin Village, Phuong Tien Commune on the top of mist-wreathed Tay Con Linh Mountain.

Each house’s roof is made from thousands of palm leaves. After decades, the roofs have been covered by green moss.

Coming to Xa Phin, visitors will have a chance to enjoy Dao culture and see the famous Shan Tuyet tea fields which boast centuries-old tea plants as well as stunning terraced fields.

Local residents are also very friendly.

According to Xa Phin villagers, the moss helps to keep their house warmer in winter.

Some families have changed their roofs to tiles or corrugated iron sheets.

Most of the houses are situated near rice fields, which is convenient for local people’s farming.

The more moss the houses have, the older they are.
